In April 1967 a female surgical ward was built. A prefabricated building which housed 16 beds. This was there so the main ward would no longer need to set aside a number of beds for surgical cases. Two 7 bedded rooms plus two single bed private rooms. The catering had to be done from the main building as this ward only had a small kitchen unit attached to it.
South Ward was built in what is now the car park of Doncaster Gate Hospital and was not connected to the rest of the building. Staff have memories of transporting patients from the main hospital to South ward, by opening the back doors of Central ward and wheeling as fast as the could across the open space between Central and South ward!
